Taxonomy
Mattaspongia was named by Rigby (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fras Sepkoski's reference number: 263]. It is not extant. Its type is Mattaspongia apaches.

It was assigned to Lyssacinosida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Thysanodictyinae by Finks et al. (2004).
