Praectenomys rhombidens was named by Quintana (1994). Its type specimen is GB 011, a partial skull (anterior part of the skull.), and it is a 3D body fossil.

Synonyms
  • Praectenomys vagus was named by Villaroel (1975). Its type specimen is GB 010 and is a 3D body fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Praectenomys rhombidens by Quintana (1994).
