Aspidium macrocarpum was named by Fontaine (1889). It is not extant. It is the type species of Dryopterites.
It was recombined as Dryopteris macrocarpa by Knowlton (1898); it was recombined as Dryopterites macrocarpa by Berry (1911) and Knowlton (1919).
