Proetus tenuimargo was named by Richter (1909).

It was recombined as Proetus (Euproetus) tenuimargo by Richter and Richter (1918); it was recombined as Proetus (Longiproetus) tenuimargo by Ormiston (1967); it was recombined as Proetus (Gerastos) tenuimargo by Owens (1973); it was recombined as Longiproetus tenuimargo by Lieberman (1994).
