Taxonomy
Proetus turgidus was named by Northrop (1939). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Northrop Locality 019. Along crest of Reddish Point ridge, east of Port Daniel, which is in a Pridoli deep subtidal shelf lime mudstone in the West Point Formation of Canada.
It was recombined as Crassiproetus turgidus by Lieberman (1994).
