Taxonomy
Mesophyllum austriacum was named by Lemoine (1930). It is not extant. Its type locality is Bruderndorf, Lithothamnium Limestone, which is in a Danian shallow subtidal limestone in the Lithothamnium Limestone Formation of Austria. It is the type species of Mesophyllum.
