Taxonomy
Porterfieldia maanssonae was named by Edgecombe et al. (2005). Its type specimen is CEGH-UNC 21408, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Río Gualcamayo, which is in an Arenig offshore shelf limestone/shale in the Gualcamayo Formation of Argentina.
