Taxonomy
Actinopteris bengalensis was named by Feistmantel (1876). It is not extant. Its type locality is Raniganj, which is in a Wordian/Lopingian fluvial-lacustrine horizon in the Raniganj Formation of India.
It was recombined as Raniganjia bengalensis by Rigby (1963), Lakhanpal et al. (1976), Chandra and Tewari (1991).
