Cretodus houghtonorum

Taxonomy
Cretodus houghtonorum was named by Shimada and Everhart (2019). Its type specimen is FHSM VP-17575, a partial skeleton (disarticulated partial skeleton consisting of at least 134 teeth, 61 vertebrae, and 23 placoid scales), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tipton, near, which is in a Turonian offshore shale in the Carlile Shale Formation of Kansas.

Everhart 2019Cretodus differing from all other known species of the genus by having teeth with moderately wide principal cusp, small lateral cusplets relative to principal cusp in tall, erect teeth, ‘V’-shaped crown base, relatively narrow tooth neck on lingual face, ‘V’-shaped basal root concavity, and short root lobes.
