It was synonymized subjectively with Tamias by Ellerman (1940), Bryant (1945), James (1963), Gromov (1965), Nadler et al. (1969), Levenson et al. (1985), Wilson and Reeder (1993), Piaggio and Spicer (2000).
It was assigned to Sciuridae by Trouessart (1880), White (1953), Hall and Kelson (1959), Black (1963), Shotwell (1970), Ellis and Maxson (1979), Kurten and Anderson (1980), Hall (1981), Hafner (1984), McKenna and Bell (1997), Jameson (1999), Piaggio and Spicer (2001); and to Marmotini by Mercer and Roth (2003).
