Eutypomyidae was named by Miller and Gidley (1918). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Castorimorpha by Carroll (1988); to Castoroidea by Wood (1958), Montgelard et al. (2002); and to Rodentia by Johnson (1966), Korth et al. (2022).
