Dryomimus was named by Kretzoi (1959). Its type is Dryomimus eliomyoides.

It was assigned to Myomiminae by Daams and de Bruijn (1995); and to Gliridae by McKenna and Bell (1997).

R. Daams and H. de Bruijn 1995"P4 rather little reduced, upper molars with - Myodyromys like - lingually separated protoloph, and uncomplicated dental pattern as in Dryomys. On the other hand, the lower molars have features that are between Dryomys, Myomimus and Peridyromys. (translated from German)
