Taxonomy
Democrinus simmsi was named by Ciampaglio et al. (2007). Its type specimen is NCSM 9582 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Castle Hayne Phosphate Works (Castle Hayne LS, N. Carolina), which is in a Bartonian marine wackestone/grainstone in the Castle Hayne Formation of North Carolina.
