Page 1973 | Leaves spirally arranged, apetiolate, amphistomatic; stomata on abaxial surface in two longitudinal bands, monocyclic; guard cells slightly sunken below surface of epidermis, surrounded by two polar and 4-5 lateral subsidiary cells. Walls of epidermal cells smooth. Vascular bundle single, surrounded by thick parenchymatous sheath. A median and two lateral resin canals lie within the sheath. Spongy mesophyli and endodermis absent. Wood of tracheids, parenchyma, and uniseriate rays. Parenchyma smooth walled. Ray cells with two pits per cross-field. Inner bark of uniseriate tangential rows of sclenchyma alternating with three rows of thin-walled calls. Pith large, cells large, irregular in size and shape; largest cells with dark contents, frequently in clusters |
