Asplenium subcretaceum was named by Saporta (1868). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Anemia elongata by Knowlton (1919); it was recombined as Anemia subcretacea by Gardner and Ettingshausen (1880), Chandler (1961), Chandler (1963).
