Taxonomy
Ophiocamax was named by Müller and Troschel (1840). It is extant. It is the type genus of Ophiocamacidae.

It was assigned to Ophiacanthidae by Jagt et al. (2014); and to Ophiocamacidae by O'Hara et al. (2018).
