Taxonomy
Virgiscalpellum mangyshlakense was named by Alekseev (2009). Its type specimen is MGU 270/24 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sample 1695, south of Mount Nayza, Mangyshlak, which is in a Campanian carbonate limestone in Kazakhstan.
