Sayimys was named by Wood (1937). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Thryonomyidae by McKenna and Bell (1997); to Ctenodactylinae by Vasileiadou and Koufos (2005); and to Ctenodactylidae by Wessels et al. (2003) and Li and Meng (2015).
