Cyclopina vulgaris was named by Raasch (1939). It is not extant. Its type specimen is MPM 11171. It is the type species of Cyclopites, Cyclopina.
It was recombined as Cyclopites vulgaris by Hesselbo (1992), van Roy (2006).
