Taxonomy
Crassatellites claytonensis was named by Dickerson (1914). Its type specimen is UCMP 11670 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP 1558, which is in a Paleocene marine horizon in the Martinez Formation of California.
It was recombined as Crassatella claytonensis by Moore (2003) and Hendy (2020).
