Arctocyonides was named by Lemoine (1891). It is not extant. Its type is Arctocyonides trouessarti.

It was assigned to Oxyclaenidae by Simpson (1928); and to Arctocyonidae by Lemoine (1891), McKenna and Bell (1997), Hooker and Millbank (2001).
