Anaptyctocyathus was named by Debrenne (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto-l Cm Boto-u]. It is the type genus of Anaptyctocyathidae.
It was assigned to Ajacicyathida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Anaptyctocyathidae by Kerner et al. (2011) and Debrenne et al. (2015).
