Taxonomy
Virgiscalpellum inornatum was named by Zullo and Sohl (1985). Its type specimen is USNM 382786, an other (carina), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 31796, Donoho Creek Landing, which is in a Campanian shoreface sandstone in the Black Creek Formation of North Carolina.
