Taxonomy
Scalpellum cyphum was named by Withers (1910). Its type specimen is BMNH I.13405, an other (carina), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grey Chalk, Dover (J. Starkie Gardner collection), which is in a Cenomanian/Cenomanian carbonate chalk in the Zig-Zag Chalk Formation of the United Kingdom.
