Zorzinilabrus furcatus

Taxonomy
Zorzinilabrus furcatus was named by Bannikov and Bellwood (2017). Its type specimen is MCSNV T 1042 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Monte Bolca (Canossa collection), which is in a Ypresian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal limestone in Italy. It is the type species of Zorzinilabrus.

A. F. Bannikov and D. R. Bellwood 2017Relatively elongated fish with a relatively long cau- dal peduncle. Head moderately large, 3.2 times in SL. Maximum body depth 1.2 times less than head length. Supraoccipital crest moderate and triangular. Lower jaw articulation under anteriormost portion of orbit. Mouth relatively small. Jaw teeth conical, arranged in a single row; enlarged premaxillary ca- nines absent. Posterior preopercular margin even. Five (?) branchiostegal rays. 25 (10+15) vertebrae. Supraneural single. Dorsal fin continuous, with 7 spines (2 supernumerary) and 13 soft rays. Anal fin with 2 spines and 11 rays. Unpaired-fin spines very slender and flexible. Four anal-fin pterygio- phores placed anterior to second haemal spine. 13 pectoral-fin rays; first pectoral ray reduced and not branched. Pelvics inserted just before pectorals, rel- atively small. Caudal fin forked, with 15 principal rays plus 13 procurrent rays both above and below.
