Taxonomy
Scalpellum arcuatum was named by Darwin (1851). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Folkestone, Gault (Bowerbank collection), which is in an Albian marine siliciclastic in the Gault Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Arcuatoscalpellum.

It was recombined as Scalpellum (Arcoscalpellum) arcuatum by Withers (1935); it was recombined as Arcoscalpellum arcuatum by Collins (1974), Carriol and Collins (2000); it was recombined as Arcuatoscalpellum arcuatum by Gale (2016).
