Taxonomy
Virgiscalpellum rugosum was named by Gale (2020). Its type specimen is NHMUK IC 1631, an other (scutum), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sample HB6.B, Horseshoe Bend, Red River, which is in an Albian carbonate marl in the Duck Creek Formation of Oklahoma.
