Anthracosenex was named by Zdansky (1930) [Type: phragmentary right lower jaw with part of P4 and M1, M2. The fossil is from China and is (or was) stored in the paleontological institute of the university of Upsala, Sweden.]. It is not extant. Its type is Anthracosenex ambiguus.
It was assigned to Anthracotheriidae by Zdansky (1930), Carroll (1988), McKenna and Bell (1997).
