Bisconti et al. 2021Basal thalassotherian characterized by wide rostrum (total skull length/maximum width of maxilla at lateral apex of lateral process between 1.9 and 2.3; value for A. patulus is 2.1; the value is not known in the included species A. lavei sp. nov.), straight temporal crest in dorsal view, short ascending process of the maxilla, wide fossa for perilymphatic aperture, stylomastoid fossa shaped as a notch between the posterior process and the posterior face of the pars cochlearis, highly inflated, expanded and long anterior lobe of tympanic bulla, transversely straight posterior border of tympanic bulla.
