Cordobicyathus was named by Perejón (1975) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-u]. It is the type genus of Cordobicyathidae.
It was assigned to Ajacicyathida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cordobicyathidae by Perejón (1975), Kerner et al. (2011), Debrenne et al. (2015).
