Squalicorax coquandi was named by Vullo et al. (2007). Its type specimen is UM PDB 1, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Port-des-Barques, unit T1, which is in a Turonian offshore shelf wackestone in the Marnes verts a Exogyres Formation of France.
