Heterodontus boussioni was named by Guinot et al. (2013). Its type specimen is University of Montpellier HAL2-8, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Hallencourt, upper horizon (HAL2), which is in a Campanian carbonate chalk in France.
