Squatirhina numidica was named by Arambourg (1952). It is the type species of Eometlaouia, Metlaouia.
It was recombined as Metlaouia numidica by Noubhani and Cappetta (1997); it was recombined as Eometlaouia numidica by Noubhani and Cappetta (2002).
