Dokidocyathella was named by Zhuravleva (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-l Cm Boto-l]. It is the type genus of Dokidocyathellidae.
It was assigned to Ajacicyathida by Sepkoski (2002); to Dokidocyathidae by Kerner et al. (2011); and to Dokidocyathellidae by Debrenne et al. (2015).
