Squalus gabrielsoni was named by Siverson (1993). Its type specimen is LO 5068 T, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sample S91-5-1-MS, Kvarnby, which is in a Maastrichtian carbonate chalk in Sweden.
