Murphitys michaeli

Taxonomy
Murphitys michaeli was named by Popenoe and Saul (1987). Its type specimen is LACMIP 7264, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCLA loc. 4106, Clover Creek, which is in a Santonian marine sandstone in the Redding Formation of California. It is the type species of Murphitys.

W. P. Popenoe and L. R. Saul 1987Small Murphitys which have a rounded whorl profile and peripheral spirals that are scarcely stronger than the other spirals. The outer lip bears a strong medial denticulation. The two columellar folds are, although distinct, not strong.
