Taxonomy
Oxyclaenus was named by Cope (1884) [first use as a genus by Scott 1892; Cope 1884 had used it only as a subgenus]. It is not extant. Its type is Mioclaenus cuspidatus. It is the type genus of Oxyclaenidae.
It was assigned to Cete by Archibald (1998); to Oxyclaenidae by Scott (1892), Hay (1902), Hay (1930) and Eberle (2003); to Acreodi by Tabuce et al. (2011); and to Arctocyonidae by Atteberry and Eberle (2021).
