Taxonomy

Triisodon was named by Cope (1881) [also said to be 1883]. Its type is Triisodon quivirensis. It is the type genus of Triisodontinae, Triisodontidae.

It was synonymized subjectively with Goniacodon by Van Valen (1978), Rigby (1980).

It was assigned to Creodonta by Cope (1881), Cope (1881); to Mesonychia by Carroll (1988), Williamson and Lucas (1993); to Cete by Archibald (1998); to Triisodontinae by Zhou et al. (1995), St. Clair et al. (2010); and to Triisodontidae by Scott (1892), Hay (1902), Hay (1930), McKenna and Bell (1997), Tabuce et al. (2011).

Synonyms

Sarcothraustes was named by Cope (1882). Its type is Sarcothraustes antiquus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Mioclaenus by Cope (1888); it was synonymized subjectively with Triisodon by Matthew and Granger (1921), Matthew (1937), Van Valen (1978), Tomida (1981).

It was assigned to Mesonychidae by Cope (1882); and to Triisodontidae by Scott (1892), Hay (1902), Hay (1930).
