Taxonomy

Hyotitan was named by Granger and Gregory (1943).

It was assigned to Metatelmatheriinae by Granger and Gregory (1943); and to Brontotheridae by Carroll (1988), Prothero and Schoch (1989).

Species

H. thomsoni

Synonyms

Hyotitan thomsoni was named by Granger and Gregory (1943). Its type specimen is AMNH 26401, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Irdin Manha Beds (1930 AMNH Eudinoceras site), which is in an Irdinmanhan terrestrial horizon in China.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Mihlbachler (2008).
