Taxonomy
Oxyrhina xiphodon was named by Agassiz (1838).
It was recombined as Isurus xiphodon by Purdy et al. (2001); it was recombined as Cosmopolitodus xiphodon by Cahuzac et al. (2007); it was synonymized subjectively with Isurus hastalis by Fowler (1911), Chapman and Cudmore (1924), Marsili et al. (2007).
