Sinocyrtoproetus was named by Yuan and Xiang (1998). Its type is Cyrtoproetus (Sinocyrtoproetus) convexus.

It was reranked as Cyrtoproetus (Sinocyrtoproetus) by Lemke (2020).

It was assigned to Proetidae by Yuan and Xiang (1998), Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Cyrtoproetus by Lemke (2020).
