Lariosaurus juvenilis

Taxonomy

Nothosaurus juvenilis was named by Edinger (1921). Its type specimen is Palaontologisches und Geologisches Institut und Museum, Universitat Heidelberg (Konig Collection, K.8698-1), a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Nusslocher Zementbruch, which is in an Illyrian marine horizon in the Trochitenkalk Formation of Germany.

It was recombined as Lariosaurus juvenilis by Lin et al. (2017).

Rieppel 1995	"A small species of Nothosaurs with relatively large orbits; relatively narrow postorbital arches; the pterygoids closely approach the internal nares; the paroccipital procceses trend posterolaterally resulting in a distinct displacement of the lower jaw joints to a level well behind the occcipital condyle; the occiput is deeply concave."

Wild 1996	A species of Nothosaurus of small size (condylobasal skull length 126 mm); orbits relatively large; postorbital arches relatively narrow; pterygoids closely approaching the internal nares; paroccipital processes trend posterolaterally, which results in a distinct posterior displacement of the lower jaw articulation to a level well behind the occipital condyle; and occiput deeply concave.
