Stegocoelia samaraensis was named by Mazaev (2020). Its type specimen is PIN 4919/28-466, a shell, and it is a mold. Its type locality is Sok quarry, locality 4919/28 (Samarskaya Luka), which is in a Sakmarian carbonate limestone in the Russian Federation.
