Paranchilophus was named by Casanovas and Santafé (1989). Its type is Paranchilophus remyi.

It was reranked as Anchilophus (Paranchilophus) by Remy (2012).

It was assigned to Pachynolophidae by Astibia et al. (2000); and to Anchilophus by Remy (2012).
