Phascogale naso was named by Jentick (1911). It is extant. Its type specimen is RMNH 35134, an other (adult male puppet skin and skull).
It was recombined as Phascomurexia naso by Jentink (1911), Van Dyck (2002), Wilson and Reeder (2005); it was recombined as Murexia naso by Woolley et al. (2020).
