Postschizotherium was named by von Koenigswald (1932). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Schizotherini by Colbert (1935); to Pliohyracinae by Prothero and Schoch (1989); and to Pliohyracidae by Carroll (1988), Kalmykov (2013).
