Richinidae was named by Sohn (1961). Its type is Richina.

It was synonymized subjectively with Aechminidae by Schallreuter et al. (2007).

It was assigned to Drepanellacea by Benson et al. (1961); to Bollioidea by Liebau (2005); and to Binodicopina by Abushik (2015) and Melnikova (2020).
