Taxonomy

Astrapotherium was named by Burmeister (1879). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Astrapotheridae by Ameghino (1891) and Ameghino (1894); and to Astrapotheriidae by Lydekker (1894), Carroll (1988) and Kramarz and Bond (2010).

It was synonymized subjectively with Astrapotherium by Ameghino (1894).
