Percopsiformorum resonus was named by Schwarzhans (2004) [?Percopsiformorum resonus]. Its type specimen is MGUH 27167, an otolith, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sonja Lens, Agatdalen, Nugssuaq, which is in a Danian deltaic sandstone in the Agatdal Formation of Greenland.
