Taxonomy
Cottidarum impolitus was named by Schwarzhans (1980). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is S137/f499 - Rifle Butts Fm, Pukeuri, which is in an Altonian coastal sandstone in the Rifle Butts Formation of New Zealand. It is the type species of Maoricottus.
It was recombined as Maoricottus impolitus by Schwarzhans (2019).
